I want a scene in IX where Ben and Rey are working together but then at some point he has to bridal carry her because she can’t walk or something and at first she’s incredibly self-conscious about it and is stiff in his arms but then she just completely relaxes into him and lets herself be carried while telling Ben that back on Jakku when she was really little and tired after a day of scavenging she used to wish really hard that someone would pick her up and carry her all the way home so that she didn’t have to walk and Ben feels like his heart is going to burst right out of his chest as he pulls her closer to him

and wow this is super self-indulgent someone draw or write this for me k thanks bye.

The underbelly of cloud swelling out from the evening sky has darkened to ash, the soft tide spilling over the horizon. The scent of approaching rainfall thickens, a near tangible zest in the air. Ben eyes the incoming storm and the wild crackle of electricity it promises, the Force prickling pleasantly beneath his skin. The Force rumbles all around him, promising destruction and healing in equal measure. The duality is comforting where once it was a source of fear and self-loathing. Now it calls to mind battles long past; of slender fingers curled around the muscle of his thigh, a solid heat slotted against his back, her ferocious war cry ringing in his ears.

Beautiful.

The memory tingles low and warm in his body and he refuses to dwell on the flush he can feel scorching his ears.

An unexpected, familiar yelp - Rey! - startles his thoughts away from distraction and Ben swivels, ready in an instant to aid her. But there are no visible foes, only his beloved sprawled in a heap on the ground, rubbing her ankle and hissing a colourful curse under her breath.

He goes to her, unsure and hovering like the fool he is. At her grimace, he bends down to inspect her foot, fearing a break or worse but she waves his concern off with a soft look, cheeks flushed with embarrassment and smiling slightly at him. For what reason he cannot fathom.

“Just a sprain,” she huffs, eyes averted and Ben snorts before he can contain himself. She swats at his arm playfully in retaliation and something about the familiarity of the action makes his sternum ache.

“Can you stand?” He asks and the unimpressed look Rey gives him makes his lips twitch. Yet as she goes to stand he sees the furrow of her brow and the grimace twisting at her mouth as she cautiously tests her ankle. Rey is accustomed to pain. It mars her very soul: the calluses carved into her hands, the scars puckering her skin, how she jealously guards her rations, the look in her eyes when she offers to share them with him. To say nothing of wounds that sting at her heart even now.

It is a foolish thing to do, reckless and impulsive, spurred by the ache of his heart and the swell of emotion (equally gentle and ferocious) that she always seems to inspire from him.

Rey squeaks an undignified “Ben?” when he sweeps her off her feet into an impromptu bridal carry, clutching with one hand at his bicep and looking at him as if he had grown another head.

He is so distracted by the feel of her muscled thighs in his hands and the soft swell of her breast against his chest that he misses the first half of her bluster in favour of his mind stalling before blanking altogether. Thank the Force walking didn’t seem to require an excess of brain power.

“ -ine! Force, let me down you - you lug - it’s just a sprain! Ben!” Rey is uncomfortably rigid as she squirms in his grasp.

That is what breaks him out of his foolish, adolescent-like trance. Nausea curdles in his gut, sickly as the shame that accompanies it. Of course…the last time she had endured such an action from him, he had been forcefully prying open her mind before submerging her consciousness into a dreamless sleep.

It is no wonder she does not wish to be close to him in this manner.

He gently loosens his grasp on her, teeth clenched, shame tightening his throat. Even now, lovestruck fool that he has become, he finds some way to hurt her. He retreats from the ever present bond between them, unwilling for her to see

Rey for her part, when he braves his own shame, is peering at him. She licks her lips and the nausea deepens. Nervous tic. He is truly is an insurmountable fool.

“Ben? Are you okay? I…I was just surprised. I didn’t elbow you that hard, did I?”

“I’m sorry,” He grits out and hates himself a little more for the surprise that ripples across her face.

“For what?” Ben startles at the gentle glide of her fingers across his cheek. Her mind brushes against his, tentatively seeking to be shown if his concerns cannot be voiced. She is so good, far better and kinder than he will ever deserve and the certainty of that truth burns in his veins like fire.

He is weak (it is perhaps the only truth Snoke ever murmured), for her even more so, but he is no coward.

He offers his explanation, terse and eyes fixed somewhere to the left of her face. He cannot bear to look at her. The restlessness of her mind settles however, no longer fluttering anxiously against his.

“Ben,”

He swallows and meets her eyes. Her fingers are still brushing against his skin, tracing the scar carved there.

Her claim.

The expression on her face is a peculiar, given what he has told her: devoid of distaste.

She swallows and he forces himself not to allow his eyes to linger on the column of her throat. He has no such right if she fears him still, even in the slightest.

“I was surprised,” Rey began, flushed endearingly and eyes bright. “Not…never because of that.”

His heart flutters, relief coursing through his veins and he opens his mouth but she hushes him. The flush on her neck deepens and he glances at it hungrily, idly wondering how far it spreads.

“It’s okay. I liked i - I mean, I’m fine if you want to…yeah.”

“Oh…oh, okay,”

Embarrassment overwhelms them both into silence as Ben stoops slightly to sweep Rey into his arms again. She is softer against him this time, the rigidness dissipating altogether as she winds her arms around his neck, the sunkissed skin of her cheek brushing his.

“I’ve always wanted this,” She confesses softly, almost ashamed, into his hair and Ben tries to swallow past the lump in his throat. “Back on Jakku, when I was little…you’ve probably already seen this, haven’t you?”

Ben shakes his head. That vision had been a blur; endless waves of sandy dunes, Plutt’s repulsive stench as he leered, those pauper graves beside the wreckage of a ship, all of it blurring too fast and tenuous to be studied intently.

Rey inhales sharply before continuing, trembling ever so slightly as he cradled her.

“Scavenging was…hard, before I got older and stronger. Sometimes I’d just be so tired I wanted to collapse in those old hulls and never crawl out. I…I used to wish that someone could just carry me home.”

Ben’s heart feels as though it has taken up residence in his throat, hammering wildly.

“‘Course, it being Jakku, even if someone had done that they would’ve probably have ransacked my AT-AT after.” Her lips curve into a smile against his neck, resigned.

“I’ll carry you home. Every day.” The words are out of his mouth before he has time to think and he can feel the furious blush tingling across his face.

Rey muffles a soft noise into his neck, squirming for a moment before leaning back. Her eyes are glistening.

She kisses him, a chaste brush of her lips against his, their noses squished awkwardly. It is an inexperienced kiss, fraught with a longing and aching loneliness of too many years but neither care.

“I love you, so much,” She murmurs against his mouth. “Never doubt that.”
